In Recognition of a complex restoration that combines preservation with adaptive re-use while achieving sustainable design. The old Post Office was converted into the home for Doty & MIller Architects. The entire exterior of the Georgian Revival-style building was preserved and rehabilitated to its original state, as was the interior main lobby and vestibule space including original doors and tile flooring. The historic mural "Flight to Industry" painted in 1937 by Karl Anderson was restored and reinstalled in the lobby, 1966 addition has been transformed into studio workstations, conference rooms, a library, print room, and kitchen. Green building design initiatives led to a highly efficient building with materials that are recycled or rapidly renewable. This is a wonderful example of a building, loved by the community, saved from obsolescence.
