At the site of a former suburban golf course, a retail shopping center was developed in 1989 when the typical strip center was a straight row of stores set parallel to the street. The developers wanted a design that would set itself apart from the standard configuration. The Greens of Lyndhurst uses a variety of rooflines, materials and meandering covered walkways to create a village scale. While there is over 110,000 square feet of rentable space, a big-box retail appearance is not seen. Even the parking lot is broken by landscaped berms and gurgling fountains. A center gated walkway connects to an adjacent senior housing development.
