Construction was completed on 2001 on the new Apprentice Training Center for the Ironworkers Local 17. Their dedication to education led this Cleveland Union to add over 7,000 sq feet to their East 23rd Street facility. The project will give the union a building which will serve both as a symbolic representation of the trade and a showcase of its skills. The project was designed with large steel trusses responding to the Ironworker’s mission and the context of this industrial area of Cleveland. The building contains large workroom equipped with overhead cranes and room including welding booths. Diffused natural light on second floor is provided by two walls of translucent panels. The project also includes two multipurpose classrooms and an apprentice constructed iron fence.
