Construction began in 2004 on a series of phased additions and alterations to the Rae-Ann Westlake nursing home. The project will transform the existing institutional 100 bed facility into a gracious Southern Plantation style facility with 130 beds. Careful design and space planning were used to meet a complex program with the new nursing stations, dining and activity rooms, inpatient therapy space and a new administrative wing and entry. Programming issues included the balancing the number of beds with new and existing nurse stations, minimizing circulation space in favor of activity and dining space, maintaining visibility for security and safety and defining construction phases that minimize disruption in a fully operating facility.
Architecturally, the exterior and interior reflect historically accurate detailing and careful consideration of mass and proportion. The original building and two later additions are tied together with new pitched roofs that also serve to minimize future maintenance expenses.

Existing interior courtyards are maintained and a new courtyard is created to provide secure connections to the outdoors for residents and staff. The new administrative/ entry wing will feature a conference center, offices, visitor lounge and formal reception desk. Contextually, the building will fit comfortably within it's neighborhood of homes, schools and church's.
