Demolition
began with the removal of an enclosed catwalk that meandered throughout the
building.
The
building has significant historical value that we wanted to preserve. We are
restoring the original entry vestibule that was demolished during a previous
renovation.
All
of the marble being removed from the front lobby is being saved and will become
a recycled material elsewhere in the project.
Discarded
materials are being recycled as much as possible. During demolition there were

The
catwalk was a part of the original building design as a security measure for
the Post Office. Its removal allowed for a great deal of natural light to enter
the building, which will help to cut down on energy costs.
Groundbreaking
was on June 26, 2002. Everyone in the Doty & Miller Staff got to take a
swing with a ceremonial gold sledge hammer to knock down the first wall.
