The
owners wanted to create a passive technology, solar heated, naturally ventilated
vacation home in the wilderness on North Carolina. Some of the unique features
of this residence include, earth sheltered natural insulation, sun tracking
window orientation that catches solar heat, and heat-sink materials that retain
solar heat. The building also uses air inlets that are underground at low point
of site that induce natural ventilation. All utilities are in a closed system
on the site. All of the natural features of the site remained undisturbed.
